Watch Dr. Starkey's Provider Interview

Dr. Joshua Starkey wanted to be a physician for as long as he can remember—even before high school. His passion for helping others and his commitment to providing compassionate care are what led him to pursue a career in medicine. He finds deep fulfillment in identifying what’s wrong and working with patients and families to make it right.

As a pediatrician, he is deeply committed to treating every patient with the same level of care he would want for his own children. He believes that caring for a child is an incredible privilege and never takes for granted the trust families place in him.

Before beginning medical school, Dr. Starkey served in the United States Army as a Human Resources Officer. He has called Johnson City home since the fifth grade and always hoped to return to serve the community where he grew up. When the opportunity arose to complete his residency at East Tennessee State University, it was an easy decision. Staying on as a faculty member after residency was, in his words, “a dream come true.”

He is married with children and is a lifelong sports fan.

Dr. Starkey is honored to be part of ETSU Health and looks forward to partnering with you in your child’s health and wellness.
