Patient Financial Representative

Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Patient Financial Representative plays a key role in the financial coordination of patient care. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing required forms and documentation for Managed Care Organizations (MCOs)
  • Conducting insurance benefit investigations and coverage reviews—including maternity care—to ensure timely and accurate billing
  • Works closely with patients to verify that maternity care is covered and paid prior to delivery
  • Establishing and monitoring patient payment plans, collecting payments on outstanding balances, and providing clear, compassionate communication regarding financial obligations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required with at least 3 years of experience in a similer healthcare financial or billing role.  Familiarity with insurance verification, benefits coordination, and patient financial counseling preferred.  Knowledge of ICD-10 coding a plus

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with faculty members, students, residents, staff, patients, and other third parties.  Ability to operate computer, keyboard, and printer.  Ability to operate phone system. Ability to concentrate on the situation at hand and listen effectively.  Ability to organize tasks, work as a team member and/or independently. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.  Convey a professional and positive image and attitude.
