Assistant Director of Human Resources

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director of Human Resources supports the overall strategic and operational effectiveness of the HR department, with a primary focus on talent acquisition, on-boarding team members, training and development of team members, policy administration and supporting all functions of the HR Director as the corporation strives to improve efficiency within the department.  This role ensures compliance, consistency, and efficiency across HR functions while fostering a positive employee experience throughout the employment lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

  • Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and develop effective recruitment strategies
  • Oversee full cycle of recruiting, including job postings, sourcing, interviewing, and selection
  • Ensure a consistent and equitable hiring process aligned with organizational goals
  • Monitor recruitment metrics (time-to-fill, quality of hire, etc.) and implement improvements
  • Build and maintain talent pipelines for critical and high-turnover roles
  • Assist in coordinating orientation of team members

Training & Development

  • Coordinate onboarding programs to ensure new hires are effectively integrated
  • Develop and implement training initiatives to support employee growth and compliance
  • Partner with leadership to identify skill gaps and recommend development solutions
  • Track and report on training completion and effectiveness
  • Support leadership development and succession planning efforts

Staff Budget & Turnover

  • Work with HR Director in overseeing budget management for movement of staff, providing reports related to turnover and workforce trends
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal documentation requirements
  • Assist in team member corrective action plans as well as team member terminations. 

Policies & Procedures

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies and procedures
  • Ensure policies are applied consistently and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Offboarding & Employee Separation

  • Manage the offboarding process, including resignations, terminations, and retirements
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback to identify trends and retention opportunities
  • Ensure timely processing of final pay, benefits termination, and required documentation
  • Coordinate return of company property and system access deactivation
  • Maintain compliance with legal and organizational requirements related to separations

HR Compliance

  • Work in conjunction with HR team to maintain compliance with medical leave requests
  • Assist in ensuring yearly evaluations are completed timely within the organization
  • Assist in maintaining licensure / certifications of team members

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

Directly mentors one or more employees of the Human Resources department.  Responsibilities include providing training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising employee performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with over five years of progressive experience in human resources, including recruitment and employee relations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably within the healthcare sector.  Experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.  Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws.  Excellent organizational and project management skills.  Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.  Strong communication and interpersonal skills.  Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.  Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret HR data and trends
