What led Jillian Leffew to become a social worker was a deep understanding of how environment, community and access to resources shape a person’s mental health and overall well-being. Growing up in a rural Appalachian area, she witnessed firsthand how poverty, limited access to care and lack of community support can impact individuals and families. Social work’s holistic approach — considering not just the individual but also their relationships, environment and basic needs — resonated deeply with her. It aligns with how she has always understood people: as part of a larger system.
Jillian’s decision to join the ETSU Health family was inspired by her deep-rooted connection to the university, having completed both of her degrees at ETSU. That experience provided her with countless opportunities for growth. Being part of ETSU Health allows her to give back in a meaningful way, serving in a helping role while proudly representing an institution that helped shape both her personal and professional journey.
As a therapist, Jillian considers herself a challenger — someone who pushes clients to grow and become the best version of themselves, while also creating a nonjudgmental space where they can fully be themselves. She believes in balancing support with accountability to help clients make meaningful, lasting changes. Her background in social work enables her to support clients at every level, whether that means helping them process trauma, connect with resources or simply meeting them where they are with compassion and understanding.
