TJ Armstrong is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who is passionate about partnering with patients to improve their mental health. He believes medication is just one tool in the toolbox and therefore takes a holistic approach to patient care, considering the whole person in each treatment plan.
Before beginning his nursing career, TJ spent many years working as a physical therapist assistant. He later attended nursing school at ETSU, where a mental health course helped him discover his true calling: becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. He went on to earn his Doctor of Nursing Practice, DNP, and is currently continuing his education by pursuing a Ph.D.
TJ believes mental health is the foundation of overall well-being. He meets his patients where they are on their journey and helps them move toward where they want to be. With a foundation in empathetic listening, TJ collaborates with each patient to create personalized plans to support their mental health goals.
He has a particular passion for working with patients who have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and related conditions, as well as those who may feel “different” or misunderstood. His compassionate and welcoming approach fosters a safe, supportive space for all patients.
